New Ford Explorer Overview
What's New for the Ford Explorer?
There have been a few changes made to the Ford Explorer. They're relatively small things, but they can have a big impact on your overall experience. For instance, the XLT now has heated seats, which can be appreciated in the colder months. Many trims have been enhanced with a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and on the XLT trim, there's the option to get some more aggressive exterior accents. Finally, the King Ranch is a new trim offered this year. It has sophisticated features that elevate the style of this SUV. They include heated and ventilated leather seats in the front row, heated second-row seats, and a real wood appliqué on the instrument panel.
Performance and Technology
The standard engine on the Ford Explorer is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger. It's able to churn out 300 horsepower, so there's plenty of capability. If you prefer something more powerful, you'll be happy to hear about the higher trims. They run on twin-turbo V6 engines that can have up to 400 horsepower. A hybrid powertrain is available. It uses a 3.3-liter V6 and an electric motor to make 318 horsepower. Towing capacity is 5,600 pounds, and all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are both options.
Ford has done an excellent job of incorporating advanced safety mechanisms into the Explorer. It comes standard with driver-assist technologies that can watch out for potential problems, send out alerts, and take corrective measures. The Explorer can be equipped with either an eight-inch or a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Wi-Fi capability and smartphone compatibility are standard.
